AUSTIN, TX (June 26, 2006) – It’s official. Kinky is the real deal. Texas Secretary of State Roger Williams announced last week that Kinky Friedman has officially earned a spot as an Independent candidate in this November’s Gubernatorial general election. Williams noted that Friedman submitted the necessary signatures required to be on the ballot. In order to achieve this, a candidate must have submitted 45,540 valid signatures by May 11th, 2006. A signature is considered to be valid if the signer: is a registered Texan voter, endorsed only one of the Independent candidates, and did not vote in the Republican or Democratic primaries earlier this year.
